Red Tide

Sign-printed pressboard
stapled to a stake
warning against the water
the dinoflagellates

And if bacteria could read
it would read Aviso
as it looked upon a beach
thickening with people

And at night the tide glows
the lurid green of
photoplanktons

And at night the beach flares
with the red
of bonfires
